0Suicide Prevention and Postvention Conference
Members of staff and the PLC Social Studies class attended the Suicide Prevention and Postvention Conference in Trinity Arts Centre on December 6th last.
Sinead Raftery, a past pupil of Castlerea Community School, organised this full-day conference. Sinead is an accredited psychotherapist and now works as a Suicide Bereavement Liaison Officer. Sinead works closely with individuals, families and communities bereaved by suicide.
The day was very informative and touched on a broad range of issues. Speakers included Mr. Gerry Ralleigh, Director National Office for Suicide Prevention, Dr. John Connolly, Psychistrist and Dr. Paul Gaffney, Psychologist. Ms. Marian Keigher and Ms Maura Callaghan spoke about the very important work done in Vita House, Roscommon and in Boyle Family Resource Centre. Mr Joe Dixon spoke candidly about his personal experiences and touched the hearts of all present.
The day concluded with the launch of a Family Resources Support Pack.
