0Public Access to Law (P.A.L.)
Public access to law is a specially devised law programme that gives students a unique insight into law as seen through the eyes of a practicing barrister or solicitor. The P.A.L. programme, now entering its 20th year, has become one of the most successful and unique initiatives in Irish education. The programme strives to de-mystify the world of law and it includes many of the principles of Transition Year e.g. thinking on one’s feet, research, presentation skills and teamwork. On Tuesday last, our transition year students got the opportunity to partake in a fantastic workshop with CCS past pupil, Mr. Ronan Mugan, barrister-at-law. The students were introduced to key legal concepts, the court system and law in everyday life. They got the opportunity to participate in a mock trial where each student had a role in the court room e.g. barrister, defender, witness and prosecutor. Ronan regaled the students with stories about his experiences in court, including his involvement with some murder cases. He informed them about state laws and what the work of a barrister involves, all of which they found very interesting. Our sincere thanks to Ronan for a very engaging and informative workshop
