CCS Win Connacht Final Of The Knights Of Columbanus Public Speaking Competition

On Tuesday 7th March in Donamon Castle, Castlerea Community School were announced as winners of the Connacht Final of the Knights of Columbanus Public Speaking Competition. The competition was hard fought against two excellent teams from the Convent of Mercy Roscommon and Summerhill College Sligo.

The CCS team will go on to represent Connacht and the Diocese of Elphin in Dublin on Saturday 25th March at the Knights of Columbanus All Ireland Final.

The topic the CCS team chose was a quote from Pope Francis under the Life Issues section with each member of the team speaking for 4 minutes: “God has created all human beings equal in rights, duties and dignity and has called them to live together as brothers and sisters.” (Fratelli Tutti 5)

At the conclusion of the speeches the team then responded to an unseen question, nominating Leanne to speak for two minutes.

The CCS public speaking team is Leanne Vaughan, Sarah Joyce, Julia Dzwonkowska & sub Michéal Shriane.

The team were fantastic on the day and as the convenor of the competition commented, the students are excellent ambassadors for their families, schools and parishes. The team were mentored and prepared by Margaret Larkin and school Chaplain Stephen O’Hara. The school is very proud of these students’ achievements so far and wish them every good wish and success as they prepare for an All-Ireland Final.
