0“Walk For Water”
Students in Castlerea Communtiy School recently participated in a “Walk For Water.” The aim of this walk was to raise awareness of the importance of water in our lives. A huge amount of young people in the developing world do not have the required clean water to drink, so instead of attending school and getting an education they walk miles to collect water for their family. It is estimated that women and young children spend 125 million hours collecting water. In order to help students in our school identify with young people in the developing world , each student carried 2 to 4 litres of water on the walk. This helped to give students an idea of the everyday struggles that young people in the developing world go through each day to obtain water.
Each student was provided with a safety vest for the duration of the walk. Thank you to staff and students who participated in the event and for all the help collecting, filling and moving the containers in the weeks coming up to the walk and also to those who helped on the day to ensure that the event ran smoothly. Your cooperation is appreciated.
