TY class recognised at Roscommon Volunteer Awards

Roscommon Volunteering Information Service was established by Roscommon Leader Partnership in 2014.  Its overall aim is to increase the numbers volunteering in the county and to promote volunteering as a rewarding and fulfilling activity.  The vision of Roscommon Volunteer Information Service is for every person to feel connected to and participate in their communities in order to build a better society.

The inaugural Roscommon Volunteering Awards were held recently in Aras an Chontae, Roscommon .They were presented by Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Mr Denis Naughton TD.

Castlerea community school TY students/Project Match 2015/2016 received a Special Achievement Award from the judging panel of Roscommon Volunteering Information Service.  This was awarded to them for their tireless effort into launching the first ever “Darkness into Light†walk in Castlerea.  The students, supported by members of the Castlerea Town Team and their TY coordinators, worked tirelessly planning the walk, mapping the route, preparing safety statements, promoting the event and seeking sponsorship.  Over 600 people attended the event with in excess of €13,000 raised for Pieta House.

Megan Gaughan thanked all who participated and who were involved in this most worthwhile and meaningful event.
