Fairtrade Fortnight 2019

Fairtrade Fortnight for 2019 runs from 25 February to 10 March. It’s the most important time of the year for us all to celebrate Fairtrade achievements and   commit to making trade fair part of our daily lives. It’s when schools, town groups and others come together to make our voices stronger against unfair trade! As part of Development Education, we are organising a Fair Trade awareness campaign, throughout the next two weeks.

One example of a key fair trade product is cocoa. Next year, Fairtrade Fortnight will focus on cocoa. Farmers of this much-loved product have seen prices fall to crisis levels in the last few years, making life incredibly difficult for cocoa farmers. This is especially true in West Africa where most cocoa is grown.

Choosing Fairtrade makes huge changes – This has been seen this first-hand. To go further in 2019 a new 3-year campaign is being launched. This will encourage everyone in the cocoa sector – consumers, companies, governments and others – to play their part and make a living income a reality for cocoa farmers.

It is hoped that CCS will help to bring about this change, by creating a greater awareness of the importance of fair trade. In order to do this, various activities will take place during fair trade fortnight throughout many classes. Presentations will be held and workshops will be organised. Fair Trade fortnight is a collaborative effort by students and teachers to create awareness of the importance of buying fair trade products.   Every time we use Fairtrade products some of the world’s most disadvantaged peoples benefit. Focusing on Fairtrade at school and at home, during fair trade fortnight, is a fantastic opportunity for young people to understand how their lives are connected to people around the world. They can explore their roles and responsibilities as GLOBAL CITIZENS, and gain a greater understanding of the effects of their choices.

Your co-operation and involvement is greatly appreciated.
