BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition
James Beatty a TY student qualified for this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition. His project was entitled “Why are we not wearing protective head gear in soccer?”
His project aims to increase awareness of the dangers to the brain of heading a football and to promote playing soccer with protective headgear. His overall findings were that head gear will prevent skull fractures etc but will not prevent concussion. He also high lighted that everyone should be aware of the signs of concussion and the necessary procedures to follow if a concussion is suspected.
James was interviewed for RTE’s Drivetime. James found this a most worthwhile and rewarding experience.
